To be eligible for the Student Direct Stream, you must live in one of the following countries in Africa or Asia:

  • Brazil
  • China
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • India
  • Morocco
  • Pakistan
  • Peru
  • Philippines
  • Senegal
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • Vietnam

For any other country, you must apply for a regular study permit.

What are the requirements to apply for SDS?

To apply for the Student Direct Stream (SDS), you must meet the following requirements:

    • Language Proficiency: You’ll need to demonstrate your language proficiency in English or French, by taking an approved language test, such as IELTS.
    • Financial Proof: You must provide proof of sufficient funds to cover your tuition fees and living expenses.
    • Acceptance at a Designated Learning Institution: You’ll need an acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada.
    • Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAD 20,635: You must submit a GIC, which will be held by a designated Canadian financial institution (refunded after you arrive in Canada).
    • Medical Exam: medical exam confirmation document.
    • Proof of full payment of first-year tuition for your Canadian program.
    • Basic criteria: You must fulfill all the standard criteria for a study permit.
