Express Entry Draw 286 & Latest updates
September 16, 2024

If you’re considering immigrating to Canada, understanding the Express Entry system is essential. We will provide you with a comprehensive overview of recent draws conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), as well as the processes involved in Express Entry.
Express Entry Draws Overview
In recent Express Entry draws, IRCC has been actively issuing Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to eligible candidates. On February 28, 2024, IRCC conducted a general draw, inviting 1,470 candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 534. Just one day later, on February 29, a French-language category-based draw was held, with 2,500 ITAs issued to candidates with strong French-language proficiency and a minimum CRS score of 336.
What’s the Canadian Express Entry system?
The Express Entry system manages applications for three of Canada’s economic-class permanent residence programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Since June 2023, the system has included a second type of draw called category-based draws.
Standard Express Entry Draws
In standard draws, eligible candidates are ranked based on their CRS scores, which consider factors such as age, education, and work experience. Candidates with CRS scores above the draw’s cut-off receive ITAs. The process involves self-assessing eligibility, creating an online profile, receiving a CRS score, and waiting for the next draw to potentially receive an ITA.
Category-Based Express Entry Draws
Introduced in June 2023, category-based draws prioritize candidates with specific work experience or language proficiency identified by IRCC. These include industries such as healthcare, STEM, trades, and language proficiency in French. IRCC has confirmed the continuation of these categories for 2024 after allowing room for reassessment.
Understanding the processes and recent draws of the Express Entry system is vital for individuals seeking to immigrate to Canada. By staying informed about CRS scores and draw updates, candidates can increase their chances of receiving an ITA and successfully applying for permanent residence.
